Mondays in México: La Parroquia

Café lechero at La Parroquia

Café lechero at La Parroquia in Veracruz, Veracruz

This week Roberto was in the port of Veracruz for work. He stopped at the iconic Gran Café de la Parroquia for lunch. He ordered the café lechero (pictured above) which is a must if you decide to visit. First, the waiters fill a small glass with strong coffee. Then, they pour warm milk into the glass holding the pitcher high above so as to make a frothy café con leche.

Roberto ate the enchiladas suizas (pictured above) for lunch. In my experience, enchiladas suizas or Swiss enchiladas are usually served in a creamy green salsa. Apparently, La Parroquia likes to do it a little bit differently and serves them with a red sauce.

Finally, Roberto tried the bomba (bomb), an item on the menu that was recommended by some of his coworkers. It is a concha (Mexican sweet bread) stuffed with the filling of your choice. Roberto chose the standard concha filled with butter. Mmm…¡qué delicioso! ¡Feliz inicio de la semana!
